Event Detail

This summer at the South Bohemian Gallery (AJG) in Hluboká nad Vltavou is set to begin in grand style. Starting from June 8, three outstanding exhibitions will open in the Castle Riding Hall, promising powerful visual and intellectual experiences. The gallery invites visitors to deeply reflect on nature, contemporary society, and the very perception of reality.

Maria Bartuszová | A Tiny Void Full of a Tiny Infinite Universe
June 8 – November 17, 2025
Curator: Gabriela Garlatyová
For the first time in the Czech Republic, AJG will present a solo exhibition of one of the most significant sculptors of the Central European region. Maria Bartuszová contemplated the essence of nature and humanity. Her work remains highly relevant today, addressing themes such as ecology, motherhood, and care for people and the environment. Her biomorphic sculptures evoke elements such as drops, cells, eggs, stones, trees, and water. They are quiet, yet powerful. The exhibition follows major presentations of her work at venues such as Tate Modern in London, the Museum der Moderne in Salzburg, and the Venice Biennale.

Jiří David | Power of Face
June 8 – October 12, 2025
Curator: Máša Pivovarová
Enter a world where faces are not specific portraits but subconscious images of our time. Nearly a hundred hypnotic, spectral, or perhaps even demonic masks from the depths of the artist’s unconscious will make you pause — and may even unsettle you. The faces are silent, yet speak to everyone who looks at them. This exhibition is a statement about a society where faces become masks — and about the need to rediscover their depth.

Miroslav Polách | Four Act
June 8 – November 17, 2025
Curator: Adam Hnojil
Four cycles, four acts, four journeys into a world of tension, dreaminess, and unpredictability. A selection of Polách’s paintings from 2019–2025 feels like scenes from stories you once knew — or are just beginning to dream. Each painting balances analytical thinking with intuition, calm with unrest, and reality with fiction. Four Act is a visual experience that slows down time and challenges us to see differently. A central theme of the artist’s work is the very process of perception.
